Justifying an expenditure is hard especially when it comes to marketing. Many of our customers hand out t-shirts as a way to get impressions across a wide spectrum of people. Certainly, you want to be cognizant of costs as with anything in a business, but with a small upgrade to the t shirt you hand out you can get more of those coveted impressions.
It’s important to mention that we are a “Google” world. We search immediately when wanting to know about a company or store. So refer back to our blog on “The Billboard Effect” for best practices when doing give away tees.
Now, for simplification purposes I’ll go over the three most popular types of t-shirts:
- Standard Tee -normally 100% cotton or 50/50
- Ring Spun– basically a 100% cotton tee that is weave different and combed to give it a soft feel
- Tri-Blend– usually part cotton, part poly, part rayon. Super soft.
Take the standard t shirt and add a one-color logo to the front and back. For 100 pieces this may cost you $6 per shirt. Upgrade that shirt to a ring spun and your cost may be around $7.50 a shirt. Not a huge increase for a perceived better product and the customer will wear it more often because it’s now a favorite. But when you upgrade that tee to a Tri-blend (at around $10) watch how many times a customer says to you “this is my favorite t-shirt! I wear it all the time!”
As you may have already deciphered, the more they wear it the more impressions you get and your customer becomes a moving billboard and spokesman for your company. That social network loop can become very prosperous. Certainly, you incur more cost, but (as our company has found) those friends of friends now associate your business with high quality products based on seeing that t-shirt a friend was wearing (everyday LOL!).
……So why not invest and make that shirt one of your company tees?
